When we take someone under our protection, whatever that may mean to us as individuals, what is the price we pay for our sacrifice to them? Do we even see it as a sacrifice? We make a choice for them, unaware of what the costs will be in the end, or how much we lose, or how much we stand to gain. It is an act of love, love doesn’t see what it will lose or gain.
